Introducing the IT8XR
The IT8XR – Extended Range is an 8×6 inch reflective scanner colour target developed to take scanner characterisation beyond the conventional IT8 format. Featuring 936 precisely measured colour patches, it provides a significantly denser set of colour and tonal reference points for detailed scanner profiling.
Building on the established IT8 format, IT8XR increases the number of measurement points across the target, giving cProfiler more reference data with which to analyse scanner response and create detailed ICC profiles.
Extended Range
The IT8XR has been developed to provide more comprehensive coverage of the colours and tones captured by a scanner. Its 936-patch layout, together with dedicated CMYK and greyscale scales, provides substantially more measurement points than a traditional 288-patch IT8 target.
The extended layout samples a broader range of colour, saturation and tonal values, allowing scanner response to be characterised in greater detail. This is particularly valuable for colour-critical scanning, where accurate reproduction of subtle colour differences and tonal transitions is important.
Designed for cProfiler
The IT8XR has been developed specifically for cProfiler. The target layout and profiling workflow are integrated into the software, allowing the scanned target to be measured and analysed against its known reference values.
cProfiler uses these measurements to characterise the scanner and generate the resulting ICC profile. The IT8XR reference data is built specifically for the target and its profiling workflow.
IT8XR is exclusively compatible with cProfiler. cProfiler is free to use on both Mac and Windows, with no additional software licence required
Reflective Target
The IT8XR is designed specifically for reflective scanning and measures 8×6 inches. The target is printed on Fuji Crystal Archive photographic paper and mounted on 400gsm white backing board, providing a rigid and stable surface for scanning while offering the durability required for repeated professional use.
Why 936 Patches?
A conventional IT8 target contains 288 patches. The IT8XR increases this to 936 patches, providing more than three times the number of measurement points across the target.
The additional patches allow a greater range of colours, saturation levels and tonal values to be sampled, giving cProfiler substantially more reference information about the scanner's response. Rather than relying on a relatively limited number of reference points, the extended layout provides a denser and more detailed picture of how the scanner reproduces colour.
